Situated approximately 1.5km off the coast of Methil on the east coast of Scotland, the Forthwind Offshore Wind Turbine test and demonstration site has been established to demonstrate the next generation of offshore wind turbines. With an operational life of 25 years, the Forthwind turbine will have a maximum generating output of up to 20MW.
Forthwind was granted a Test and Demonstration Seabed lease by the Crown Estate Scotland and secured a Contract for Difference from the Low Contracts Carbon Company in September 2019. The Scottish government granted consent for the Forthwind Demonstration Project in March 2023 under section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989.
